Southside Partnership - Supporting people to lead independent lives

Community Support

Community Support is provided through Personal Assistants who support people who have moved away from building-based day services. Customers are encouraged to develop skills, confidence and independence so they can enjoy life more and participate in social, learning and community activities.

Customers are matched up with the staff who will support them in achieving their personal plans.

Customers and their carers are fully involved in the recruitment of personal assistants so they can choose people they like and who will share their interests. A personal assistant is expected to;

  • Actively seek ways to learn about the needs, wishes and aspirations of all people they support and work in partnership to acheive these
  • Consult and involve people they support .
  • Enable people  to have new opportunities and experiences, make mistakes and manage risk
  • Recognise diversity and ensure that all people are treated fairly, with dignity and respect.
